#17 Blogfolio

1. Intro Video: The first day of IT 365 the class took a part in an activity that used NETS-T standard II, which is to “design and develop digital-age learning experiences and assessments.” We did so by filming a classmate using the video function on our IPhone and uploaded them to our newly created blog. By using our IPhones we were using contemporary tools we were used to in order to record ourselves and upload them to our new blog, which maximized our learning and developed new knowledge, skills, and attitudes. This beginning project lead us into the many new skills we would soon learn about using technology. This project showed us many different forms of expressing ourselves in creative ways. This assignment taught me that a video can be just as meaningful as words. The most difficult part of the video project was giving information that explained myself in thirty seconds. This taught me that there are many different ways to express yourself with different medians. I’ve learned through this project that I can incorporate an informative video of myself or anything else to help explain different information to my students that may not be allowed inside the school.

2. Concept Map: NETS-T standard II, which is “design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments” was used during our concept map project. We used a program called inspiration to produce a concept map for our future classroom. We chose our own lesson plan that allowed us to search for our own topic. We created our own digital aged learning experience. I learned that there is a lot more that goes into the lesson plan that just an activity or information. Concept maps are a great tool that I will use many times during my future career. As future teachers we have to get used to integrating the common core standards into each lesson and insuring that our students get the proper education they need to move onto the next level of education. It was difficult to learn how to incorporate different lessons with the specific common core state standards and make an interesting lesson for the students. But I learned that you can modify your lesson to meet the standard. I gained knowledge form this project that I will be able to use in my future classroom as far as inspiration, common core state standards, and concept maps.

 3. Website: NETS-T standard IV was met by producing our own webpage. The standard states to “promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility.” We were able to create our website correctly and avoid copywriting someone else’s work and share our own. We used Google sites to create this website which was a new tool for me. I learned how to be a digital citizen by citing and stating where the information I used was from. I learned how to use graphics and google sites. Although I encountered a few problems with glitches and programs, I was able to navigate and learn how to fix the problems myself. I will be able to incorporate creating a website in my classroom to help teach my students how to be a digital citizen and the correct way to cite online material as well as explore and express themselves in different ways. This will be helpful for my students to learn how to work their way around a website and it will also be helpful to their parents to keep them updated on the things that are going on in class and what they need to be doing outside of the class so that they are always informed.

4. Movie: In class we created our own movie using a program called Movie Maker on our desktop. This involved using NETS-T standard I, which is to “facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity.” We were offered the chance to express ourselves through pictures that told a story. It was difficult to find pictures that told a whole story without giving a long explanation of each picture and how they connected to one another. It was also difficult to decide how to choose the right pictures that would make the story come together. I learned that computers can be difficult to use when you are trying to save something and you have to be specific and make sure that you are saving to the correct place and uploading it correctly. I also learned that different computers have different programs so you have to know how to use different programs that go hand in hand. This is a good way to teach students creative expression how to give credits to those in the movie as well as the songs used. This would be an interesting way to get students to meet each other in a different way.

5. Turn-It In: For this assignment we were given a set of questions and given instructions to find the answers in articles online. For the first submission, we were to copy and paste information from the articles and turn it in on Turnitin.com plagiarizing the information without changing any words. For the second submission, we were to put all of the information in our own words and resubmit it so we didn’t plagiarize at all. This assignment follows the NETS-T standard IV which “promotes and models digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information.” Through this assignment I learned the right way to paraphrase an article to make sure that it’s not plagiarized. This is a great tool that I will use in my future classroom to teacher students the importance of using their own work and teaching them what is considered plagiarizing. It will be important to start teaching students the importance of plagiarizing in elementary school so that they are prepared and know how to paraphrase and summarize when they get into higher grades.

6. Web Tools: Following the NETS-T standard II to “customize and personalize learning activities to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources” we created a rubric, online quiz, and online bookmark. This project is a great tool for the future because we were given websites that are templates for all three of these things. In the future I will have to create rubrics for each project, so having a website that helps me do this is a great tool that I will be able to use all of the time. The online bookmark keeps webpages that are helpful for me and my students in the classroom. This is a good tool that I can use so I don’t have to worry about losing a webpage that I come across. All of these websites were new to me so I had to learn how to navigate around the pages and figure out how to use the website for my benefit. I learned that creating these things is not as easy as it sounds and having these template websites makes things much easier for me. I will be able to keep these sources and use them regularly in my future classroom.

7. Google Assignment: We used the NETS-T standard I, which “Promotes, supports, and models creative
and innovative thinking and inventiveness” in the web tools project. For this project we were paired in groups and had to come up with a story, having each person in our group add on a part of the story. We also had to create a PowerPoint using Google Drive where we worked from our own computers and worked on the project. We used Google groups in this project, having to learn how to use another Google tool. This project helped me to learn to cooperate with other people which is something that I will need in my future profession. I also had to communicate with my peers in my group to know what information needed to be included. As a future teacher, I will be working collaboratively with other teachers to ensure the best material for our students. These tools would also be helpful for students in upper elementary school if they were working on a group project or group PowerPoint. It is a great way to have students work together but also be able to work from their own stations instead of having to be all at the same location. This allows people to be able to do their part of the project on their own time and not have to work around everyone’s schedule.

I have learned how to better use technology from this class. It has taught me different ways to incorporate technology into the classroom and how important it is for the future. With technology evolving and growing it is important to keep the technology in the class room up to date. It allows children to become involved in a different way of gaining information rather than just listening to a lecture or reading a text book. I’ve learned how important technology can be to incorporate the Common Core State Standards into the classroom.  It is another way to get the students involved with the lesson an allow them to get hands on learning. It can offer freedom of research and teach them the importance of being a good digital citizen. I hope to be able to teach my students the information about technology I have learned from this class.
Coming into this class, I knew I wasn’t that great with computers, so I know that I had weak points. One of my main weak points was trying to figure things out on my own when we used tools that I had never used before and didn’t know how to work my away around them. I think that this is a weak point for me because I don’t have a lot of patience so when I can’t figure out what to do right away I start to get frustrated. This is something that I need to work on to be a better teacher in the past. One of my strong points is getting things done and staying on top of things. I don’t like when things are late and not completed the right way so I usually get things done before they are due. This is a good strength because I am going to need to be on top of things and manage my time when I become a teacher.
I believe it is important to incorporate technology into the classroom because children can easily interact and gain different benefits from researching of aiding fin motor skills. It is important not to overpower yourself or the students with the use of technology in the classroom but find a happy medium. The projects that we have done are all great projects that can easily be used in my future classroom and that I hope to use with my students. I think that the Blog that we created is a great way to show our assignments and also a great tool to teach students how to use. Hopefully they will take away as much as I have taken away from this class. I will be sure to incorporate technology into my classroom thanks to the different things I have learned for IT 365.

  1. These screen names are all bad because they give the users a bad reputation before the people even know them. They are all negative names and give the user a negative name.
  2. Someone might harass people with these screen names because the user is giving out bad information about themselves and people can see this and use it against them.
  3. All of these screen names have the users real name in them or something they are interested in so if someone is trying to find this person they could look up their name that is provided in the screen name or go to the sporting event or activity that they are attending and find them because their username gave away that information.

He also is showing how dangerous some websites are.  His computer showed a message claiming that he has a spyware infection on his computer. However, when he clicks the icon and program pops up that he never installed claiming to be a virus scanner. Things to look for when detecting a virus is unusual apps in your program bar and pop-up window ads.

False Sales Advertisements Lead to Financial Loss in Excess of $20 Million -
From June 2009 to June 2014 the Internet Crime Complaint Center received over 6800 complaints concerning criminals aiming online consumers by posting false advertisements for high priced items such as automobiles, boats, heavy equipment, and other similar items. These complaints total more than $20 million in reported losses." According to the article, criminals post false advertisements that put an item up for sale with a fake photo to make buyers interestes. The criminal also uses a phone number or email, then the consumer calls or emails the criminal to buy the item. After the consumer gives the criminal their email, the criminal sends them pictures about the item they're supposedly selling and ensures the consumer's purchase will be safe and secure by using Ebay. However, Ebay is not really what is being used. . The criminal sends a false confirmation email that includes the fraudulent transaction number and expected delivery date of the item that says it is from Ebay.  If the buyer tries to call about the item they have bought, the calls are screened or the line is "busy". The buyer never receives their item and they lose the money they spent to the criminal.
The article gives these tips to avoid this happening to others:
    • Use search engines or other websites to research the advertised item or person/company selling the item.

    • Search the Internet for any negative feedback or reviews on the seller, their e-mail addresses, telephone numbers, or other searchable identifiers.

    • Research the company policies before completing a transaction. For example, ensure the seller accepts payments via credit card as Ebay does not conduct wire transfers and only uses PayPal to conduct transactions.

    • Be cautious when responding to advertisements and special offers.

    • Be cautious when dealing with persons/companies from outside the country.

    • Maintain records for all online transactions.

#14 Guide to Creating Tech-Friendly Classroom Management Strategies

The article that we read is called "Guide to Creating Tech-Friendly Classroom Management Strategies" and it is an informational article about the proper way to use technology in the classroom. The article give four strategies about how to manage a classroom with technology in it. The first strategy is to do your homework. It is important that a teacher is prepared for the activity that they are going to do with technology having all materials needed, backup materials, and accommodation materials for those that need it. The second strategy is to identify learning goals. Teachers should take the time to tell the students what the activity is and the learning expectations of the activity. This is important so students don't get off task. The third strategy is to step away from the computer. It is important for teachers to know how much technology should be used in a lesson. Students also need time to interact with each other and the teacher and that can't be done by using technology. The last strategy is to capitalize on their desire to explore. Teachers should let children explore for a certain amount of time to keep the students learning.

This article is a very useful article for current and future teachers. Technology is a great thing that is becoming a huge part of the school systems but it can also be dangerous. Having too much time on a technological device can hurt a student's communication skills because they are not getting any interaction with other people. These skills develop in children when they are younger so I think there should be less technology used in a classroom at a younger age than at an older age. Children need to be able to play and interact with other students and giving them technological devices takes that away from them. I think that the article gives good tips on how to properly use technology in a classroom and should be read by all teachers.

#13 Why so many kids can't sit still in school today

In this article, the author talks about the attention disorder, ADHD, and how it is becoming more common for children in school. More children are being diagnosed with ADHD because they can't sit still in school and it is because the schools are expecting students to sit still for longer periods of time. Children aren't getting enough time to run around and play and this is becoming a problem. Parents are calling doctors concerned because their child is getting in trouble every day for not having good behavior and it is effecting the child. This problem is not the child's fault, it is the school systems that we have today. The article says that children are walking around with an underdeveloped vestibular system due to restricted movement. Children need more than 20 minutes a day to play outside and participate in physical activity. Because they aren't getting enough movement to turn their brains on, they are less prepared than ever to learn. Fidgeting is a problem and needs to be fixed with more play time and activities.

Because of the curriculum that teachers are expected to teach today, this will be a problem in my future classroom. I can make this problem go away by managing our schedule in the day to make sure I don't have to cut recess short and even plan an extra recess at the end of the day if time allows. I can allow students to take breaks between lessons where we can play different games that require moving around. These games can pertain to the lesson to get the students moving but also stay on track. Physical activity is a huge part of a child's life, and by taking that away in the school system, we are hurting the child more than helping. It is important to make sure we allow our students as much physical activity as possible because we do not know what they are going home to and what activity they will get at home. Sending children home with too much homework is also a problem that restricts children from playing because parents make their children finish their homework as soon as they get home. In my classroom, I will try to send home the least amount of homework that I can to make sure students get that activity that they need.

#12 Six Must Watch Videos

"Classroom of Tomorrow"- This video shows us different kinds of technology that is being used in a classroom where pencil and paper aren’t being used at all. Though I think that this is how the future classrooms are going to be, I don’t completely agree with it because it takes away from the student/teacher interaction. I think that it is important for children to know how to function without technology in the classroom as well as with technology.
"The Voice of the Active Learner"- This video shows us a girl that is a digital native and does not use a traditional classroom. I feel like this type of learning is becoming more popular with technology becoming a bigger part of our lives, but I don’t think that everyone can learn this way. By having online classes, you do not benefit from the student/teacher interaction or the student/student interaction. This is an important part of students’ learning. This type of learning may be good for certain scenarios, but I think that you can’t learn everything online that you can learn in a classroom.
"The Future Starts Now"- This video shows us about Information and Communication Technology. I think that students should be allowed to use technology in the classroom to a certain extent. Technology is becoming a huge part of a child’s life which can be a good and a bad thing. Students need to be able to interact with each other and have different methods of learning besides technology. This is especially crucial in the younger ages when they are learning communication skills.
"Designing Schools for 21st Century Learning"- This video shows us a man that talks about how he felt about school and how he felt about designing. I agree with the man in the video when he talks about how important the environment of the classroom should be. Classroom environment changes the whole mood of the room and helps students learn. I think that the type of design shown in the video is a very useful and creative way to set up a classroom.
"Tools and Resources for the 21st Century Education"- This video shows us different resources and tools that we can use in our future classroom as teachers. Any type of resource that will help me be a better teacher is beneficial for my future. I think this video is very useful because I have never heard of these resources and they are all something that I can use in the future.
"A Vision of 21st Century Teaching"- This video shows us how different teachers use technology in their classroom and how they use it to help their students. I think this video is very beneficial because if you don’t know the right way to use technology in a classroom a lot can go wrong and the students won’t get anything out of it. This video helps me see how technology can be beneficial, but I also still think that technology shouldn’t be the main source of learning in a classroom.

#9 Common Sense Media

Common sense media is a website that helps families, teachers, and students make smart choices about their media. They provided unbiased information, trusted advice, and innovative tools to help people chose the right media and technology to influence students’ lives in a positive way. They publish independent ratings and reviews for almost anything that kids want to watch, read, play, and learn. The unbiased ratings are done by expert reviewers and aren’t influenced by the creators or funders in any way. Common Sense Media rates media based on age appropriateness and learning potential. They research on how kids learn from media and technology to inform their learning ratings. For each title they indicate the age that the title is appropriate for and give the title either an ON which means it’s age appropriate, a PAUSE which means it’s somewhat edgy for that age, or an OFF which means it’s not appropriate for the age. For apps, video games, and websites they give ratings such as best, very, good, good, or fair for learning. Common Sense Media looks at several aspects of each category to decide whether it is age appropriate and how it needs to be ranked. I think this a great website for everyone. Technology is growing each day and it is becoming something we rely on so I think that it is important that we as teachers and parents know what we should be showing our kids and letting them watch or play.

#8 Cyber Bullying

Bullying is a huge problem that has been going on in the school system for years and with social media sites becoming more popular each day; an even bigger problem has emerged among students everywhere: cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is when a child is bullied by another child by using the Internet or any other form of digital technology. There are many forms of social media that cyberbullying has been a problem on such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Yik Yak. These types of sites are becoming more popular towards the younger ages and parents don’t have any control over what gets posted. Teachers should be fully aware of this problem and should take precautions to try to prevent it in their school.

The article that I chose to read is called “Bullying and Cyberbullying: Six Things Teachers Can Do.” This article gives great tips to prevent cyberbullying and bullying and how teachers can reduce the amount of bullying that goes on in their environment. Teachers should discuss bullying in their classroom and have the students come up with rules against bullying. This will get them involved and hopefully see how much bullying can affect a person. They should teach cooperation by assigning projects that make students compromise with each other. Teachers should have a plan in the classroom so students know what to do when they see a person getting bullied. Students need to know that bullying is a serious problem and taking immediate action is so important so it can be stopped before it is taken too far. A teachers should talk to the bully in private instead of around their peers and involve their parents so action can be taken at home as well. Bullying and cyberbullying is a huge problem that needs to be stopped. We as teachers need to be able to spot bullying and know the right way to discuss it with our students so that they understand the severity of it.

#6 Podcasts

Podcasts are a very interesting form of learning. For visual learners, like me, podcasts would not be the way to go. It is something that you have to focus on and listen to without having anything in front of you to read about the subject that is being talked about. I think it is a good way to listen to information, but at the same time I think it is more difficult to comprehend than reading something out of a book or seeing in on a PowerPoint. There are some people out there that like to listen to things rather than read them. Podcasts are a very convenient source that can be downloaded to any smart phone, computer, or tablet and listened to wherever and whenever you feel like it. It is a good tool to have, but not something I prefer.

The first podcast I listened to is called “What’s the Best Way to Teach Teachers?” This podcast is about how teacher preparation should be more demanding and how there should be stronger certification requirements. One thing that the world needs to do is get rid of the myth of “natural-born teachers.” We assume that there are good teachers and bad teachers and we need to get rid of the bad teachers and get more of the good ones, but in reality teaching is a knowledge and skill and goes beyond knowing a subject really well. Teachers don’t anticipate the mistakes that kids are going to have and just have answer-getting strategies. Skilled teachers learn to anticipate how students are going to miss problems and how they are going to help them find a path to the right answer. This podcast really helped put an idea about how teaching is in reality in my head. I have never thought about these problems before but they are problems that should be addressed to improve teaching and the school systems.

The second podcast I listened to is called “Online University Skips Class to be More Accessible.” This article is about how students are reevaluating the value of today’s college education because of high tuition, scarce job opportunities, and student debt. For more than a century, higher education has relied on the credit hours in class and those credit hours add up to a college degree. At Southern New Hampshire University, they have launched College for America which is an online degree program with no classes, no teachers, and no credit hours. This program measures how much is learned rather than how much time a student sits in a classroom. It is an innovative way to make college more affordable and still learn as much information without taking so much time out of a person’s day. I think this idea is a great idea for people that can learn on their own, but I don’t think it is a good idea to have all classes like this because some people need assistance and visuals besides what’s provided on online classes.

#5 How Shutterfly and Other Social Sites Leave Your Kids Vulnerable to Hackers

In this article, How Shutterfly and Other Social Sites Leave Your Kids Vulnerable to Hackers, the author writes about how a very popular website, Shutterfly, doesn’t have SSL which is a strong form of internet security used to prevent websites from being hacked into. Shutterfly is a website that allows users to upload photos of kids, home addresses, emails, gender information, phone numbers, school names, jersey numbers, and game schedules all in one place. According to Mother Jones, Shutterfly knows that they don’t have this internet security, but continue to not do anything about it and when asked about it they went around the topic. Without SSL, this website can be hacked into with just a few clicks by almost anyone, allowing them access to all information of anyone that has an account on there. This is shown in the article by Tony Porterfield, a technical engineer for Cisco in Los Altos, California. Porterfield is trying to make this problem more known to parents and coaches so they can become aware of the issue and remove all personal information about their children from any website.

Like the last article we read, this is just more proof on how bad the internet can be. The internet is a great tool to make things in life easier, but parents and teachers need to be informed on the security of the websites and how to detect if the website has the right security before putting personal information out there. As a teacher I will need to do research before using any online activities to make sure that the website has the right amount of security. It is more important to not use the internet than to put my students in danger.

#4 With Technology Taking Over in Schools, Worry Rises

In the article, With Tech Taking Over in School, Worries Rise, the author writes about technology companies collecting a large amount of data about students because of the rise in the technology industry, with little control on how the data can be used. This has become a concern for many across the United States and many are beginning to take action to secure that the information that students give electronically is personal and not for any other purposes. The state of California was the first state to pass a law restricting educational sites, apps and cloud services used by schools from selling or disclosing personal information about students from kindergarten through high school, using the children’s data to market them, and collecting records on them. After California passed this law, many other states started to take action on making sure the students’ information is secure. With technology rising, parents across the country have started challenging the industry’s information privacy and security practices. Personal information should be only used for other purposes with consent from the student.

I think that this article is a great eye-opener for many people to show them how the technology industry is booming and how important it is to keep everyone up to date but also keep personal information confidential. As a teacher it will be important for me to assure to the parents that all of the work online will be on protected sites with good security systems. Keeping students updated with the latest technology is important so they will be able to keep up with the outside world, but I also think it will be important to show them other methods besides technology so they don’t rely on it for everything and can still be sociable with one another. Technology is a great tool, but it can also be a dangerous tool.

#3 NMC Horizon Report K12

  • NMC Horizon Report: 2014 K-12 Edition, examines emerging technologies for their potential impact on and use in teaching, learning, and creative inquiry in schools.
  • Each of the three global editions of the NMC Horizon Report — higher education, K-12 education, libraries, and museums — highlights six trends, challenges and emerging technologies that are likely to enter mainstream use within their focus sectors over the next five years.
  • The framework focuses on the systemic approaches that are needed to scale up innovative pedagogical practices, especially in ICT-enabled learning settings.
  • The process used to research and create the NMC Horizon Report: 2014 K-12 Edition is rooted in the methods used across all the research conducted within the NMC Horizon Project.
  • The procedure for selecting the topics in the report is based on a modified Delphi process refined over 12 years of producing the NMC Horizon Report series, and began with the assembly of the panel. The panel represents a wide range of backgrounds, nationalities, and interests, yet each member brings a relevant expertise.
  • The panel was composed of 53 technology experts from 18 countries on six continents this year;
  • A key criterion for the inclusion of a topic in this edition is its potential relevance to teaching, learning, and creative inquiry in K-12 education.
  • These questions were designed to elicit a comprehensive listing of interesting technologies, challenges, and trends from the panel:
  • What trends do you expect to have a significant impact on the ways in which schools approach our core missions of teaching, learning, and creative inquiry?
  • What do you see as the key challenges related to teaching, learning, or creative inquiry that schools will face during the next five years?
  • Which of the key technologies catalogued in the NMC Horizon Project Listing will be most important to teaching, learning, or creative inquiry in K-12 education within the next five years?
  • What key technologies are missing from our list? Consider these related questions:
  • > What would you list among the established technologies that some schools are using today that arguably all schools should be using broadly to support or enhance teaching, learning, or creative inquiry?
  • > What technologies that have a solid user base in consumer, entertainment, or other industries should schools be actively looking for ways to apply?
  • > What are the key emerging technologies you see developing to the point that schools should begin to take notice during the next four to five
  • The NMC Horizon Project model derived three meta-dimensions from the CCR framework that were used to focus the discussions of each trend and challenge: policy, leadership, and practice. Policy, in this context, refers to the formal laws, regulations, rules, and guidelines that govern schools; leadership is the product of experts’ visions of the future of learning, based on research and deep consideration; and practice is where new ideas and pedagogies take action, in schools, classrooms, and related settings.
  • Expectations for teachers are evolving rapidly, especially as student-centered learning and flipped classroom models are increasingly emphasized by departments of education and school administrations.
  • The teacher’s role is becoming that of a mentor, visiting with groups and individual learners during class to help guide them, while allowing them to have more of a say in their own learning.
  • Teachers are no longer the primary sources of information and knowledge for students when a quick web search is at their fingertips. Instead it is up to teachers to reinforce the habits and discipline that shape life-long learners
  • One visible example of the transformation of teaching is the Recognizing Educational Success, Professional Excellence, and Collaborative Teaching (RESPECT) project, an educator-led initiative in the U.S. that aims to better prepare students for the 21st century workforce.
  • Universities are also working to evolve the teaching practice by providing K-12 classes with entrepreneurial experiences
  • Key to nurturing the new role of teachers is providing them with plentiful opportunities for professional development.
  • For educators in other parts of the world, a number of online platforms have been developed recently to equip teachers with technical skills without the expense of traveling, including the international NMC Academy, along with EdTech Leaders Online, which focuses on aligning teaching practices with the Common Core.
  • Rather than the teacher using class time to lecture and dispense information, that work is done by each student after class, and could take the form of collaborating with their peers in online communities, curating online content, watching video lectures, listening to podcasts, and more.
  • Deeper learning is a term increasingly used to describe a variety of approaches in which students gain knowledge and skills by investigating and responding to a complex question, problem or challenge.
  • Deeper learning can be an important approach to making schools more relevant and effective, and this trend is gaining traction across the world.
  • To enable the shift to deeper learning, schools are thinking about how they can leverage technology to produce products and extend the learning experience beyond the classroom.
  • Education leaders are working together to develop more professional development opportunities for teachers so they can integrate deeper learning in the classroom. The Alliance for Excellent Education ,the Buck Institute for Education,33 and the Hewlett Foundation are just a few groups leading efforts to work with states and districts to improve learning goals, provide teachers with ongoing training and tools, and share best practices from exemplary schools.
  • School leaders seeking to learn more about the impact of large-scale implementation of OER can look at state-wide and district-wide initiatives.
  • To aid teachers with integrating OER into their classroom practices, the OER Commons is an online hub for content curation and training that was developed by the Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education.
  • Hybrid learning models, which blend the best of classroom instruction with the best of web-based delivery, place a strong emphasis on using school time for peer-to-peer collaboration and teacher-student interaction, while online environments are used for independent learning.
  •  Blended learning is often used as a synonym for hybrid learning.
  • Hybrid learning is seen as a way to level the playing field for rural schools by providing more access to a variety of high-quality courses.
  • Electrovibration refers to the process when a finger is dragged across a conductive, insulated surface, creating an electrostatic force that results in a rubbery, sticky, bumpy, or vibrating sensation.
  • The future of “feel screen”-enhanced devices offers many possibilities for deeper interaction with educational content, and with it and accessibility that caters to users with physical and mental disabilities
  • Being able to interact with the material on the screen improved letter and word recognition among students.
  • While the traditional model prevails in many classrooms, there are initiatives now that award funding to schools for their work toward innovative redesigns of the school day.
  • Next Generation Learning Challenges (NGLC), for one, allocates funding for Breakthrough School Models, which put personalized learning first through flexible learning environments that leverage time, space, roles, and instructional modes to meet the needs of each student.
  • Though this trend is at least five years away from mainstream implementation, there are certain schools that, after setting the precedent, are actively working to help other schools replicate progressive school structures through teacher education.
  • In Future Classroom Lab Learning Zones, six schemes are outlined and are intended to optimize physical space, leverage ICT resources, and address the changing teacher-student dynamic. Each scheme is centered on a specific skillset —Investigate, Present, Interact, Create, Exchange, and Develop — and is supported with a list of key objectives, useful equipment, and resources.
  • Innovative learning environments call for teachers to have a solid grasp of the underlying pedagogies that support the use of technology in order to holistically transform the school experience.
