#8 Cyber Bullying

Bullying is a huge problem that has been going on in the school system for years and with social media sites becoming more popular each day; an even bigger problem has emerged among students everywhere: cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is when a child is bullied by another child by using the Internet or any other form of digital technology. There are many forms of social media that cyberbullying has been a problem on such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Yik Yak. These types of sites are becoming more popular towards the younger ages and parents don’t have any control over what gets posted. Teachers should be fully aware of this problem and should take precautions to try to prevent it in their school.

The article that I chose to read is called “Bullying and Cyberbullying: Six Things Teachers Can Do.” This article gives great tips to prevent cyberbullying and bullying and how teachers can reduce the amount of bullying that goes on in their environment. Teachers should discuss bullying in their classroom and have the students come up with rules against bullying. This will get them involved and hopefully see how much bullying can affect a person. They should teach cooperation by assigning projects that make students compromise with each other. Teachers should have a plan in the classroom so students know what to do when they see a person getting bullied. Students need to know that bullying is a serious problem and taking immediate action is so important so it can be stopped before it is taken too far. A teachers should talk to the bully in private instead of around their peers and involve their parents so action can be taken at home as well. Bullying and cyberbullying is a huge problem that needs to be stopped. We as teachers need to be able to spot bullying and know the right way to discuss it with our students so that they understand the severity of it.
